Oh this winter is a drag. I’m so bored of cold, windy and grey days. And the rain! It’s taking such a toll on me. All I want to do is bunker down at home with a glass of red and a bit of Netflix. Every. Day. But no, I have to drag my cold ass out of my lovely warm home to go to work, to the gym, to socialise and to do all my errands. It’s a grind, I tell you.
The thing is, I always thought I was good at winter. Eleven years in London, and the assortment of coats and scarves that come with it, have me well equipped for Melbourne’s winter. This is my seventh winter, so come on. I should be used to this by now!
But yesterday it dawned on me: thanks to my last job, I was in Sydney for at least half of the past three winters, meaning I had regular doses of sunshine and warmth to get me through Melbourne’s grim months. To be honest, that’s the only upside to all that travel.
So at least now I know why this winter is such a struggle. It’s the middle of July which means there’s really just a few weeks until the first promise of spring starts to shine through. And in the meantime, I’m going to distract myself from the rubbish weather by wearing my lovely London coats.
